Context

Since 2016 we’ve worked with the city of Antwerp on a variety of award-winning projects aimed at improving quality of life for citizens and tourists alike - from innovative management of today’s transport challenges to the city’s 20-year vision on environmental impact and neighbourhood development.

Smart travel solutions to Belgium's most populous municipality

Our first project for the city of Antwerp was Smart To Antwerp (Slim Naar Antwerpen), a website aimed at improving the city’s congestion by affecting a change in the people’s travel habits.

Using advanced analytics, the tool offered alternative travel routes and means of transportation to the public, encouraging the use of smarter, more eco-friendly routes. The resulting web tool was the first of its kind, combining multiple means of transport to calculate the fastest, greenest, and most physically active routes available.

Co-creating the Antwerp of tomorrow

Every few decades, various departments of the Antwerp municipality come together to create an updated future vision for the city, covering a vast range of topics from infrastructure and environmental policies to socio-cultural growth and zoning objectives.

Antwerp’s future plans were only accessible via scattered pdfs across various municipal sites… until recently. We worked with the city to create Antwerpen Morgen, an in-depth digital platform that not only informs citizens of future projects, but also gives them a chance to get involved. Through the website, users can view city plans by timeline, location, and popularity, or ‘doe mee’ if they want to contribute to particular upcoming events.

No other Belgian platform informs its citizens this extensively about its future plans: from urban living to entrepreneurship and recreation.

An innovative solution to 24 hour tourism

Most recently, we worked with Stad Antwerpen to create an improved customer-experience for tourists arriving via the famed Antwerp Central station. While the station already featured a kiosk, open from 9 to 5 most days of the week, our goal was to take things a step further by providing round-the-clock tourist information in multiple languages.

Following an initial research and prototyping phase, we resolved to install a large tablet interface in the station and create a touch-screen experience app. The platform offered an accurately animated tour of the city along with information on various hot spots and walking routes, all of which users could fast forward, rewind, and scroll through at their own pace, in their own language.

Don't take our word for it.

"Thanks to Leap Forward we’ve always succeeded in bringing super complex themes and actions to our audience in a clear and above all simple way."
