KMSKA wins the Digital Product Award 2024

The mobile application of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp has been awarded the Henry Van De Velde Award in the best digital product category. The app acts as the perfect audio-visual guide when exploring the impressive art collection. Visitors can thus navigate through the museum at their own pace and use the app to find the nearest practical facilities when the need arises.

What truly distinguishes this app is our commitment to ensuring accessibility for all visitors. Throughout the design and development phases, we rigorously tested the application with a dedicated group of over 100 diverse museum visitors. Their valuable feedback shaped the app, leading us to introduce features such as variable font sizes and a sign-language mode. These enhancements aim to make the entire collection as accessible as possible, allowing everyone to enjoy the timeless classics showcased at the KMSKA.

Birgit Pluvier, Marketing Manager at KMSKA, also agrees: "Thanks to the mobile app, a museum visit is richer, more informative and accessible than ever before. Through the collaboration with Leap Forward, we also have access to the application's user data in the process, allowing us to constantly evaluate and improve the visitor experience."

And those figures speak for themselves. The KMSKA app has enriched the experience of more than 44,000 unique visitors since its reopening. Fun fact: users of the application most frequently added the work "Sixteen September" by Belgian artist René Magritte as a favourite.

KMSKA first approached us in 2017 as it wanted to reimagine its customer experience. Specifically, it wanted to blend digital and physical touchpoints to bring the museum’s stunning collection to life for all visitors—no matter their age, language, or level of knowledge.
